Hey! Vintage Commercial Friday Goes to the Drive-In!!!

Published by schoultz at 1:00 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Did you ever check out a cookbook from post-WWII era America?  Say, one from the 1950’s?  It ain’t pretty, citizens.  Folks ate some weird-ass looking cuisine back then.  Makes you feel for the men returning from the conflict.  They fought the Nazi menace and esssentially saved the world to return to plates of gelled meat dishes and unfortunate displays of garnishes.  No wonder the after-work high-balls were manditory.  Of course if Mad Men contains a smidgen of truth, at least the office secretaries were smoking hot.  Still, small comfort.  Here’s a vintage line of drive-in theatre ads from that era.  Note how the food ads make you want to do anything but eat what is peddled.  Also note the nuclear green of the pickles.  Dig in…

Could the 1950’s appear to be any less fun?  Dig the father and son.

They drank like fish, smoked like paper mill chimneys, and ate popcorn coated in artery-clogging yellow sludge.  Yet they are still around, the survivors of the post-WWII generation, while the rest of us are dropping off like flies, oft before age 60.  Makes you wonder, makes you wonder…
